BlitzHome BH-CDW1 Honest Review: A Dishwasher for Traveling
Verdict
Overall, this is a great dishwasher for the price. Portability and ease of use are definitely its selling points. It has various settings for different uses so that you can select the best one depending on what you need to wash.
The capacity might not be the best for those who have large families but if you are someone who travels often, it is definitely worth it.
Connectivity issues are surely a big negative but the warranty can be utilized if needed to fix the problem. Power consumption is possibly a more substantial drawback, especially for the winter of 2022-2023.
Pros
- High quality for its price.
- Portability.
- Glass door.
- Decent Capacity for its size.
- Easy to clean.
Cons
- Connectivity issues with the application.
- High power consumption.
- No upper rack.
Pricing – How to purchase it more affordably
The dishwasher’s price (around $250 at the time of writing) is pretty competitive as most smart countertop dishwashers’ prices start from about $300 and go up from there. Plus, with Banggood you can save over $50 on the BH-CDW1 as it always has great deals and discounts.
Features
2 water inlet methods
There are two methods that you can use to get water inside the dishwasher. After you select a cleaning mode, the device will first check if everything is in order and then continue with the washing and rinsing process.
1st Method: Either the tap or the water inlet under the kitchen cabinet can be used to connect the dishwasher’s inlet hose to the water source. This is the standard method of installation, although, it might not be the optimal way if you go camping.
2nd Method: In this method, you can fill the dishwasher by hand using a plastic cup. There is a huge tank inside the dishwasher that takes up to 5L of water. Once the tank is full, you’ll get a sound notification(two beeps). It’s important to mention that the dishwasher won’t start operating unless the tank is full. This method can be used wherever you are provided you have water.
5 Cleaning Modes
Standard: This is the default setting for your dishwasher, and will clean your dishes with a medium amount of intensity in 69 minutes.
This is the mode you will likely use the most. It does the washing and rinsing at 55 °C and 68 °C, respectively. It’s pretty efficient if you ask me.
Quick: This setting uses a shorter cycle time than the standard setting, but will still get the job done in 29 minutes. Remember this is the least intensive program so avoid using it if your tableware is quite dirty.
ECO: This mode is pretty self-explanatory. This washes your dishes in 59 minutes with just enough water to do a thorough job (and no more). This contributes to environmental preservation. In terms of intensity, it falls in between the standard and quick modes.
Strong: For extremely soiled dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchen items, this mode is excellent.
The powerful cleaning option removes any stuck-on oil or food particles by using more water than the regular cycle at higher temperatures. However, it lasts 89 minutes so it’s definitely not the fastest solution.
Fruit: This mode is specifically designed to clean the fruits and vegetables. There is a plastic basket included in the package. I am not sure who is going to use this function since it runs for 19 minutes which is too long(for me). The dishwasher will rinse twice with cold water.
There is no washing included in this mode and you should not add detergent. You can always end the program earlier so it’s up to you to decide if your fruits are clean enough.
Dry function
This dishwasher has a dry function that lasts 60 minutes. This feature is perfect for those who don’t want to risk leaving water spots on their dishes after they’ve been cleaned.
It’s pretty decent in terms of quality although, it’s not able to completely dry everything. You have two ways of using it.
- You can set it by choosing the cleaning mode and then pressing the DRY button will make the dry function start right after the cleaning is done. This is probably the best way since you can complete everything in one go.
- You can use it separately from cleaning. In that case, there is a UV light inside the dishwasher which only works if there is not a high enough temperature to dry everything. Additionally, to all the parents out there, you can use UV to completely sterilize baby bottles.
In my opinion, this function doesn’t have to be used during the summer but it’s absolutely necessary during the winter times. Keep in mind that it consumes a lot of electricity. More about it is in the power consumption section.
BlitzHome APP
This wouldn’t be a smart home appliance if you couldn’t control it with an application from your smartphone, would it? The BlitzHome app offers you the remote control that’s expected for smart devices.
Considering the fact that it’s a portable dishwasher we’re talking about, you don’t need to use it unless you want to load all the tableware inside the appliance and do the cleaning later.
Nevertheless, I did face issues connecting with the dishwasher. You can read more about it in the Connectivity section.
Benefits
Quality
Our first priority while using a dishwasher is clean plates, spoons, mugs, etc. I conducted a ton of testing, and I must say that the dishwasher’s quality is excellent.
You will be satisfied as long as you use a suitable detergent and pick the appropriate cleaning mode.
Portability
While permanently installed dishwashers can be quite large and bulky, their portable counterparts are much smaller and easier to move around and store. The BH-CDW1 falls under that category.
It’s quite compact and weighs about 15kg so I would recommend buying it if you are going on vacation and you want to avoid all the hassle of dishwashing by hand.
Decent capacity
Although this dishwasher looks small at first, you can actually fit 4-6 sets of tableware inside it. I am not saying that it’s going to cover a full family but I believe that it’s ideal for couples. In fact, it has more than enough space to even fit a small pot.
Easy to Clean
As I mentioned before, everything inside the dishwasher is non-detachable. And I mean EVERYTHING. Even the two floaters. That makes it particularly easy to clean. Especially the filter at the bottom; you can turn it counterclockwise to remove and clean it.
Glassdoor
The BH-CDW1 has a glass door so you can watch how the whole process of cleaning is done. On the inside, there is a waterproof LED light that turns on as soon as you open the door.
In my opinion, it adds an extra aesthetic to the whole design as you can tell by the photos. Overall, it makes the dishwasher look more premium.
Drawbacks
Connectivity
One major issue the BH-CDW1 has is connectivity. As a smart device, it has a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, but in some cases, smartphones can’t connect to it; they can’t even find it. I tried connecting two smartphones with it and none of them worked so it definitely has something to do with the dishwasher.
Although not all models have this problem, if you are unlucky enough to have one(like me), you may activate the warranty to obtain a brand-new dishwasher with functional Wi-Fi.
Upper rack
This is not very significant but I have to mention it. This dishwasher obviously supports an upper rack but it is not included in the package.
However, you can always get your own and add it for some extra space since it is perfect for washing extra cutlery. You will obviously have to pay more money but thankfully these are not very extravagant.
Power consumption
The power consumption is 950W which is pretty high considering the dishwasher’s size. However, if you use the “Quick” mode, it consumes about 700-750W.
But if energy efficiency is not a big concern for you, or if you live somewhere where power rates are reasonable, then this should not be a real issue at all.
Warranty
The warranty is only 18 months for parts and labor, which might not suit your needs if you’re looking for something more long-term. On the bright side, it is decent considering other similar device brands offer only 1 year of warranty but it could definitely be 2 years instead of 1 and a half years.
